My backgroundI have been working as a counsellor for over 14 years. I have an MA in counselling and I am a senior accredited counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I began studying to be a counsellor in my mid thirties. Before that I had worked in several careers and had been a lecturer in an Art College, a Classical Music journalist and also worked in PR and marketing.
I have trained in a number of different approaches to counselling, initially studying Existential and Psychodynamic therapy and then focussing on CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). The CBT approach is the core of how I work now.
I also have a specialism in treating post traumatic reactions for which I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing).
Over the years I have worked in a wide variety of settings including the NHS, low cost mental health centres in London, and organisations providing counselling services to major organisations and businesses. In 2005 I began to work for the Priory and I still see a number of clients on a part time basis there.
My many different experiences of counselling work have given me a deep understanding of psychological difficulties and I have worked successfully with people suffering from stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, anger issues and post traumatic reactions.
As well as working as a counsellor I also regularly train counsellors and other professionals in areas such as stress management, post trauma counselling and sickness absence management.
